A Faster Facebook for iOS
The HTML5 version is awful. Not really the problem of HTML 5 itself, but the implementation. Or, probably using HTML5 for building a social media app which demands high level of gesture recognition was itself a bad idea.

Funded startup vs Bootstrapped startup
My take.
If possible go for bootstrapping. But it really depends on the idea. Can an e-commerce startup really ignore funding and do bootstrapping?

How about presenting the rating system as follows
5 - Excellent
4 - Good
3 - Average
2 - Bad
1 - Crap
And instead of star ratings, ask the users to select one of these options. This way, the back end system and database can still remain same for most part.
